PART THIRTY, Sura 12
JOSEPH, PEACE BE ON HIM
Muhammad, in Chapter 12 of the KORAN, makes it very clear to the Muslim
followers that this book was sent down from above, saying, "An Arabic
Koran have we sent it down, that ye might understand it." In fact,
Muhammad speaks of Chapter 12 as being "one of the most beautiful of
narratives will we narrate to thee, of which thou has hitherto been
regardless." In this chapter Muhammad speaks of Joseph, son of Jacob, a
young man despised by his jealous brothers, who at first they planned to
slay, but later decided to throw him into the bottom of a well so as to
avoid having his blood on their hands. He goes on to tell of wayfarers
who came by to use the well, discovered Joseph and made "merchandise" of
him. They sold him for a "paltry price" to an Egyptian who used him
after he matured as a house servant. When others failed and Joseph
interprets the Egyptian King's dream, warning the King of a seven year
drought, he is brought before his majesty who then learns the truth of
Joseph's being lured and tempted to engage in "unlawful love" by she who
solicited him to lay with her.
We present this series with the full intent of using Muhammad's own
words to acquaint you with the Koran and to be able one day to judge the
value of it all to this world of ours.
