Part 44
Sura 25 “AL FURKAN”
By
John W. Bailey

Muhammad felt his main mission from Allah was to warn mankind of their plight should they not believe in Allah. Muhammad says in the opening of Sura 25 “Blessed be He (Allah) who hath sent down AL FURKAN (the illumination) on his servant (Muhammad), that to all creatures he may be a warner.” Specifically he warned against believing in gods other than Allah or equating others as equals with Allah. Muhammad continues “His (Allah) the Kingdom of the Heavens and of the Earth! No son (Jesus Christ) hath He begotten! No partner (Jesus Christ) hath He in his Empire! All things hath He created, and decreeing hath decreed their destinies. Yet have they adopted gods beside Him which have created nothing, but were themselves created: and no power have they over themselves for evil or for good, nor have they power of death, or of life, or of raising the dead.

There were those in Muhammad’s time who rejected his claims of being an apostle of God and what Muhammad revealed through the Koran. Those who rejected his claims and message included Jews and Christians of the time, often referred to in Muhammad’s words as infidels. These doubters were apparently troublesome to Muhammad. Muhammad continues in this Sura “And the infidels (unbelievers in Islam) say, ‘This Koran is a mere fraud of his (Muhammad) own devising, and others have helped him with it..” The note of J.M. Rodwell (the translator of the version of the Koran we are using) to this particular verse of the Sura says “The frequency with which Muhammad feels it necessary to rebut this charge by mere denial is strongly indicative of its truth.” Muhammad’s answer to these charges is this “He (Allah) hath sent it (the Koran) down who knoweth the secrets of the Heavens and of the Earth. He truly is the Gracious, the Merciful.” With no one else to corroborate his story and revelations, Muhammad often got frustrated with these unbelievers. Hence he would forecast doom for those who believed in God in a different way than what he said Allah revealed to him through the Koran. According to Muhammad, on judgment day those who believed that God had a son would learn the truth from God himself who will say to those who did not believe Muhammad: “They (other gods, Jesus Christ) have no power to avert your doom, or to succour (assist) you.”
